TENURE-TRACK CANADA RESEARCH CHAIR (TIER II) IN
CHILD AND ADOLESCENT MENTAL HEALTH INTERVENTION

Position Description:
The ideal candidate for this CRC Tier II position will be a child clinical psychologist with expertise in child, adolescent,
developmental, or pediatric psychology. The candidate will have extraordinary competence in the creation and
implementation of empirical, state-of-the-art interventions for youth mental health, and related issues. Health issues may
include intellectual disabilities, communication disorders, ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, learning disorders, depression,
anxiety, bipolar disorder, first episode psychosis, feeding/eating disorders, elimination disorders, headache, sleep-wake
disorders, among others. Intervention is broadly defined, including child- or parent-focused psychological treatments,
behavioural interventions, or school-based programs. The candidate is expected to have the ability to establish a strong
clinical intervention research program supporting which treatment(s) work best, the underlying mechanisms, and how
interventions can be adapted to facilitate their widespread dissemination and uptake. The candidate will create and lead
research in the development of early interventions to reduce the lifelong burden of youth mental health problems in
Canada, thereby strengthening clinical and preventive health science at Concordia.
This position builds on existing strengths and facilities in the Department of Psychology, Concordia’s Centre for Clinical
Research in Health, and the PERFORM Centre, which focuses on preventive health. The candidate would have potential to
access clinical participants through research partnerships with the Montreal Children’s Hospital and Hôpital Ste. Justine, and
to collaborate with researchers in the department.
Qualifications:
Priority will be given to applicants who are child clinical psychologists (CPA/APA-accredited training, or equivalent) who are
licensed (or OPQ license eligible). Applicants should also have a strong interest and commitment to contributing to graduate
and undergraduate teaching and training, including clinical supervision. The position is anticipated to be filled at the rank of
Assistant Professor.
Candidates eligible for Tier II Chair positions must be excellent emerging scholars within 10 years of their highest degree at
the time of nomination (exclusive of career interruptions). Potential Tier II candidates who are more than 10 years from the
highest degree should take note that certain career interruptions may still make them eligible for nomination. Potential
candidates are encouraged to submit a formal justification by means of the Tier II Justification Assessment Form, which will

including further details on eligibility criteria and acceptable justifications to the extension of the eligibility term.
Notwithstanding the above and irrespective of their submission of a formal justification, candidates are encouraged to share
any career interruptions or personal circumstances that may have had an impact on their career goals (such as the decision
to have a family, eldercare, illness, and so forth) in their letter of application. These will be carefully considered in the
assessment process.

description of research program, (iv) statement of teaching philosophy and experience (including supporting materials), and
(v) contact information for three referees. The cover letter should describe: qualifications, how criteria defined above are
fulfilled, three most important research contributions to date, and how the candidate plans to contribute to a more diverse
and inclusive research and teaching environment. Candidates also are invited to include a clinical statement describing their
experience with and approach to clinical supervision (clinical populations, diagnostic expertise, theoretical orientation). The
